🌱 Keep The Project Going
This project shouldn’t still exist. But it does—because of people like you. What started as a one-day experiment turned into a lifelong commitment—and now, it’s my full-time work. But here’s the truth:
The Strangers Project only exists because of donations.
There’s no big sponsor behind this. No team. No salary. No health insurance. Just me—doing everything I can to keep this project alive, accessible.
If this project has moved you—if you’ve seen yourself in a stranger’s words or felt more connected to the world because of it—I hope you’ll consider donating. Every single dollar makes a difference.

Do you ever see a stranger and wonder—”what’s it like being you?”
I’ve been asking that question for the past fourteen years and have received more than 85,000 hand-written, true, and anonymous answers. Whether about love or loss, joy or fear, what they all have in common is an honest voice of the human experience. We’re living in a time where the differences between us are magnified. I believe that what starts as a simple act of listening can be a profoundly transformative experience. Exploring the lives of the people we share space with every day shows us how wonderfully human we all are. These stories engage strangers of all ages and backgrounds to reflect, rejoice, heal and connect through words.
Strangers Project FAQ
Who started/runs the Strangers Project?
The Strangers Project was started by Brandon Doman (that’s me!). Other than collaborations, the strangers project is a one-man show.
Can I mail you my story or submit it online?
Nope. a big part of the Strangers Project is that all of the stories are spontaneously shared in person. You can read them online, but stories are only shared face-to-face during story collecting events.
How can I support this project?
This project is only possible with your support. You can make either a one time or recurring donation On Patreon. You can also support the project by following on social media and spreading the word about this mission!
How can I find out where you’re collecting stories?
Many of my story-collecting days are unscheduled. I often collect in public spaces around NYC, most commonly Washington Square Park. The best way to find when and where I’m at is through Instagram stories. Larger scheduled events and exhibitions are listed over on the events page.
Can I bring the Strangers Project to my city/school/organization/event?
Yes! While I normally collect in public spaces, many people and organizations host the Strangers Project for their own communities. Learn more at the events page.
Wait—I have a question that isn’t answered here!
I got you covered—you can check out the full F.A.Q. page here. You can also learn a lot more about the project throughout the website. If your question still isn’t answered feel free to get in touch!
