The Strangers Project is a celebration of the stories we’re surrounded with every day—both from the strangers we share our space with every day, and our own stories we carry. It’s about a connection with ourselves, with people around us, and with something greater than ourselves.
I create spaces where people can discover stories, and if they choose, share their own. None of the stories in the project are submitted online or through the mail—each is from a passerby I met that took a moment to share with me. The stories come from all ages, all walks of life
Hi there! I’m Brandon, founder of The Strangers Project. Since 2009, I’ve been inviting people to pause for a moment, pick up a pen, and share something true about their lives — anything from a single sentence to several pages. Over the years, this has grown into an ever-expanding collection of more than 100,000 handwritten stories from strangers of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life.
I started with a clipboard and a handful of blank pages in a park, not knowing if anyone would stop. They did. And they kept coming — in parks, at festivals, in schools, at museums, on city sidewalks, and now at our flagship space in the World Trade Center Oculus in New York City.
The Strangers Project is a living museum of the human experience. It’s a place where you can read the words of thousands of strangers, reflect on your own story, and maybe even feel a little more connected to the world around you. My role is simple: to hold the space, care for these stories, and keep them accessible to anyone who wants to explore.
I’m always happy to answer any questions you have or explore ways we can collaborate. I’m currently available for speaking engagements, exhibits, and collaborations, so let’s talk!
